Turf Care

Mowing

One major mistake made by lawn lovers is cutting their grass too short. Some grass types don’t do well without a bit of length. Longer grass can help protect itself from the sun and the morning dew, and allow shade to each blade from another blade. So although it might be painful to mow more often to keep it at a controlled longer length, your grass will thank you for it. Make sure your mower blades are sharp and not rusty as damaged blades can bruise your strands. If your soil is wet (from rain or heavy watering etc.) let the soil dry completely before mowing as this can cause your soil to compact.

Fertilising and water care

Everybody knows your grass needs water to survive. It also needs food. You can do this by using fertiliser on your lawn every 3-4 months. Fertilisers are easy to use and very safe, but if you are unsure we are happy to help you select the right one and even apply it for you.  When it comes to watering, your lawn will react better to a deep water less regularly than a light water more often, so water more but less often. You can help your lawn out by coring or aerating, this will allow water to be distributed below the roots.

Weeds/unwanted visitors

Make sure you are keeping an eye on any changes that happen to your lawn. A browning area might be damage from weed growth, but it might also be the common nasty lawn grub. There is a pesticide you can buy from your local hardware store to get rid of them, but you will need to stay on top of it to make sure they are gone for good. Lawn grub can easily spread and ruin a whole lawn in no time. Regular weeding is a must for the health of your lawn. You can also prevent weeds with spray treatments you can do yourself, but if you are ever unsure just ask us, we are happy to help.
